  • Caring for your product
The dyes in the basket may fade in the sunlight, so we recommend they are kept out of direct sunlight.
To clean your basket, scrub any marks gently with a fine bristled brush, a little warm water and a gentle soap. Allow to dry in a well ventilated area out of the sun.
To reshape your basket, soak it in water for about 60 seconds, then shake off any excess water. Let it sit for a couple of minutes to allow the straw to absorb moisture. Reshape by pressing the base against the floor, then let it dry in a shaded, dry place. We suggest that you reuse the water to nourish a plant or tree.

About the process

About the process

Baba Tree baskets are crafted from wild-harvested straw sourced from Ghana’s cooler southern regions. Artisans split, roll, and soften the straw, a process that can take up to a day, before it is hand-dyed to achieve vibrant, consistent colors.

Weaving each basket involves around 25,000 knots and  takes on average 2.5 to 4 days for a medium sized basket. The weavers work meticulously, shaping the base and sides, then finishing with a sturdy coil around the basket’s circumference. Handles are reinforced with goat leather for added strength and are carefully strength-tested to ensure durability.

Every basket is a testament to the skill and precision of the artisans, resulting in functional and beautiful pieces that reflect their craftsmanship and dedication.
