  • Sustainability Features
    Natural Materials

Umnia favours natural and recycled materials, from wool and cotton to plant-based dyes. These choices reduce environmental impact and enhance the beauty and texture of each piece, making them as gentle on the planet as they are to touch.

    Cream Berber Rug
    Low Carbon Production

With a focus on hand-loomed techniques and minimal machinery, Umnia’s production keeps energy use low. Local sourcing and small-batch processes further reduce carbon emissions.

    Cream Berber Rug
    Womens Empowerment

Umnia works closely with artisan communities where weaving is often led by women. Through fair work opportunities and creative collaboration, the studio helps support economic independence and generational knowledge-sharing, empowering women to shape their own futures through craft.

    Cream Berber Rug
    Fair Wages

Fair compensation is a core value. Umnia partners with weaving cooperatives and workshops that pay above-market wages, ensuring artisans are recognised and respected for their skill and time. The result is a product that values both people and process

    Cream Berber Rug
    Preserving Heritage Crafts

Each Umnia rug is woven using traditional Moroccan techniques, preserving stories that have travelled through generations. By working directly with artisans, the studio ensures these crafts remain alive, evolving within today’s design context while honouring their cultural roots.

  • Caring for your product
With just a little care, your rug will age beautifully in your space for years to come. Regular Maintenance Gently vacuum your rug using a suction-only vacuum (avoid rotating brushes, which may damage the fibres). Shake it out occasionally to release dust and bring back its natural loft. Spot Cleaning Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth—never rub. For stubborn marks, use a mild soap mixed with water and gently dab with a soft cloth. Always test on a small area first. Rotation Rotate your rug every few months to ensure even wear and fading, especially in sunny spaces or under furniture. Storage If storing, roll your rug and wrap it in breathable fabric like cotton. Avoid plastic as it can trap moisture. A Note on Shedding Natural wool rugs may shed slightly at first—this is normal and will settle over time. Shedding is a sign of authenticity, not a flaw.

About the process

About the process

Each Umnia rug is handwoven in Morocco using age-old techniques passed down through generations. Artisans work on traditional wooden looms, knotting or weaving each piece slowly and intentionally.

The process can take weeks depending on the size and complexity of the design. Natural fibres are selected for their durability and warmth, then spun and dyed using low-impact methods. Every rug is a story woven with care.
