We Carry the Dawn TShirt (Unisex)

We Carry the Dawn,” a project in collaboration with 25 women-led enterprises across Bamyan, Kabul, Herat, and Badakhshan.

This T-shirt symbolizes new beginnings (dawn), hope, and the end of darkness. The designs feature symbols chosen by the women themselves, representing both the spirit of the collection and their homeland.

Despite immense challenges, these inspiring Afghan women started their businesses from scratch, overcoming obstacles and opening doors for others by sharing their knowledge and skills. Their workshops serve as a refuge, offering purpose and a secure space to connect and create with other women.

These women place immense value in their financial independence. Many of them do not seek aid, they seek orders. They take pride in being able to say, “I worked for this.”

This project is a collaboration between Artijaan and ACTED, supported by UN Women.

About the process

About the process

The beauty of an Artijaan piece lies in its journey. In Herat, glassware is still hand-blown using techniques passed down through centuries, each vessel capturing the spirit of the artisan behind it. In villages and towns across Afghanistan, women's embroidery collectives stitch life into fabrics, weaving tales of culture, community, and resilience.

Artijaan maintains a close presence on the ground, operating in remote and challenging environments to provide artisans with fair opportunities. Through thoughtful design inspired by local traditions, and support in craftsmanship training, every product is a collaboration of skill, spirit, and hope.
