Hamaji, meaning nomad in coastal Swahili, was founded in Kenya in 2017 by designer Louise Sommerlatte. The label draws on East African style and nomadic tradition, working with a wide network of artisans across Kenya and India. Each piece takes shape through mindful collaboration, from a women's collective in the Himalayas to hand loomers in Nairobi and two sisters from the Kikuyu tribe in the foothills of Mt. Kenya. Sustainability guides every design, from natural fibres and botanical dyes to carefully up-cycled vintage textiles.
